Christiaan Tonnis was born on June 5, 1956, in Saarbrücken, and then moved to Munich and later to Frankfurt am Main. He studied at the art and design university Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach am Main with Prof. Dieter Lincke and Prof. Dr. Herbert Heckmann. He is working with drawing, painting, collage, photography, video art and text.

His topics include psychological insights of people in portraits, the inner worlds of the Female Warrior, literary landscapes, meditation pictures and pictures of the Bible. He is interested in writings of Christianity, Psychoanalysis, Shamanism and Poetry and is a member of the Kunstverein Familie Montez, Ausstellungsraum Eulengasse, St. Paulsgemeinde / Alte Nikolaikirche Frankfurt and the International Novalis Society.
